Schoonheid. Vrijmetselarij en kunst in Gent rond 1900
The exhibition examines the influence of Ghent Freemasons on art and culture at the end of the 19th century. At the time, there were two main Masonic lodges active in Ghent: the progressive La Liberté and the more moderate but also socially committed Le Septentrion. The exhibition argues that these freemasons had a progressive social outlook that was accompanied by a penchant for innovation in art and architecture. For this exhibition, we borrowed two catalogs from the artist group 'Les XX'.
