Flemish Festivals and Celebrations: Brueghel, Rubens, Jordaens...

De koning drinkt - Jordaens (ca. 1640)

Urban ceremonies, weddings and village festivals, court and king's festivals... Discover the Flemish feasts of the 16th and 17th centuries, whose traditions still live on!

This exhibition explores the Flemish feasts of the 16th and 17th centuries through the lens of collective entertainment in public spaces. For the first time, works of art and realia - musical instruments, crossbows, ceramics, etc. - are combined in an exhibition that looks at the Flemish festivals of the 16th and 17th centuries in their various forms and through the lens of collective entertainment. For the exhibition, the Boekentoren lent a work with woodcuts of five 5 triumphal arches.
