Permanent exhibition

A new permanent exhibition spread throughout the building offers visitors the chance to discover the history, workings and rich collections of the University Library up close.

At various points throughout the building, you will find a self-contained narrative. Whether it’s a brief visit to the reception area or an in-depth exploration of the building, the exhibition offers insights at every turn. materials that give the Boekentoren its character.

Behind the scenes of the University Library

Five flipbooks shed light on the history of the university library, the vision of Henry van de Velde, the meticulous restoration, and the specific materials that give the Boekentoren its character.

A central information table offers a glimpse behind the scenes. Using a scale model and a cross-section, it becomes visible where work is being done in the building. Two flipbooks make the operation concrete: one depicts the various functions and the people behind the library, while the other translates the library into compelling figures.

Four display cases and a poetic film bring the heritage collection and its operations to life.

New display cases provide the setting for changing exhibitions of selected items from the collection and heritage. These exhibitions regularly change theme and are accompanied by a poetic documentary that captures the essence of the collection.

The Boekentoren is not a museum, but a dynamic workplace. The displays in the showcases therefore evolve with the times and regularly change theme, ensuring there is something new to discover on every visit.
