In the nineteenth century, public art exhibitions were the places for artists to show their work, sell it and build a reputation. Although the Paris Salon and the London Summer Exhibition are the most known, Belgium also had a thriving exhibition culture. From 1814 to 1914, the national art salons were organised alternately in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent. The exhibition 'Salon Fever. Triennial Art Exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent (1814-1914)' revives this dynamic art scene with the help of numerous loans from the Boekentoren collection.
