The Ceremoniale was commissioned by Brother Maghelinus of Sint-Baafs. The manuscript is of great historical value as it offers unique insight into the liturgy of one of the most important Flemish abbeys: the Sint-Pietersabdij. As a link between external influences and Ghent manuscript production, it shows strong connections with the missal of the Sint-Pietersabdij. The Ceremoniale is also of exceptional artistic value, having been produced by highly skilled artists. In addition to penwork and border decorations, it is illuminated with one miniature and thirteen historiated initials, each depicting a story or event.
